Harry Potter Scrapbook Paper Background Images
Hi There! Making a layout using scrapbook paper with a large photographic image can be difficult, but with these tips you'll create some of your favorite layouts.
Creating a Layout Using Scrapbook Paper with a Large Image
A large photo real image scrapbook paper can compete with your photo, so here's some tips that will help.
Use Only a Few Photographs on the Scrapbook Layout
Keeping photographs to one or two is key, because there isn't much space on large image scrapbook paper.
With this Harry Potter themed scrapbook paper there wasn't much room, so I only used one photo.
Another alternative is to print small photos them group them together.
For example, on this scrapbook layout four small photos are grouped together, so they have the look of one photo strip. The key is limiting the space taken up by the photos, but still allowing them to have a big presence.
Have the Photo Take Center Stage
Use a single large photograph on scrapbook paper with a large image print, so the image on the scrapbook paper won't overwhelm your photo.
For example, on this layout I used one 4×6 picture, because it has the same presence as the photo of the Hogwarts Express Train printed on the paper.
Another alternative is to group a few smaller photos together and mat them like one large photo.
On this layout, the large photo mat balances the large raptor image printed on this scrapbook paper. I matted the four smaller photos together, so they have the same visual weight as the large imaged printed on the scrapbook paper.
Mat Photos with a Bright Color
Photo mats really help pictures standout, so picking the right mat will help bring focus to your pictures.
This photo looks triple matted, but there are actually only 2 paper mats. I printed the picture with a white border, then added two mats behind it. The first one picks up the brown tones in the photo, while the black and red one adds a pop of color.
The red photo mat also helps to harmonize the picture with the large photographic image on the scrapbook paper. Used an inking tool to apply black ink around the edge of both mats, so they would blend in with the black background on the Hogwarts Express Train paper.
Plan for the Title and Journaling
I planned where the title and journal spot would reside before cutting anything, because there isn't much room on a large image scrapbook paper once you add a large photo.
On this layout I added the title under the photo using these fun Harry Potter themed letters.
Express printed on this half of a postcard is ideal for this layout, because it's about the Hogwarts Express. I kept the journaling to a minimum, because the layout is already busy.
Keep Embellishment Clusters Small
With a large image printed on the scrapbook paper and a large photo, there isn't much room, so keep embellishment clusters small.
Two of the clusters flank the page title, so they actually look like one larger element on the page. On the right a "Wizards Welcome" sticker is layered with a 9 3/4 sticker, because they relate to the photo. Also added the "magical fun" sticker as it describes the train ride.
On the right of the title I layered a Hogwart's sticker with a couple flags to create a small accent.
Above the journal spot there was a bit more room, so I placed a larger embellishment cluster there. In keeping with the theme of the Hogwarts Express Train the cluster has a suitcase and a 9 3/4 sticker. Added a castle sticker along with a quidditch golden snitch.
Working with a scrapbook paper that has a large image printed on it can be a challenge, but with these tips you'll have it mastered.
